Colossal Castles

In line with the terms topic the class have been making their own castles over the past few weeks.  They look tremendous!  Each team planned their castle layout on paper first.  Then created the board super-structure - with lots of detailed brick work, moving drawbridges etc.  Some of the groups added moats and trees.  Now after so much team effort all of the teams are clambering to take them home.  Therefore each team has decided to create a fair system of deciding who takes the castle home.  Which will be the lucky households.  The models will go home Friday.

Judo Demonstration

All the children of Class PM had a go at Judo this morning.  It was fabulous!
The sport entered the Olympics in 1964 when they were held in Tokyo, Japan.
Barnsley has a thriving club for Juniors and our class had a 45 minute session with the instructors.
We practised some: warm-up games and ground holds.

It was quite tiring for the children but still there was a buzz of excitement throughout the session. 15 members of the class wanted to take home a leaflet with an interest to attend the club.  £2 per session @ holgate sports centre, Shaw Lane on Monday evenings 6.30-8pm

Friday 15th July 2011 - Star of the Week Award

This weeks award was easy to select. Abigail, Taylor and Matthew. They worked exceptionally well all week as a team building their castle. They were one of the smallest teams; there were no arguments and worked efficiently as a team. They had some fabulous creative ideas for decorating the sides of the castle. A big well done.

Thursday 14th July 2011 Class Work Assembly
Our class had a great time presenting our final work assembly of topics we have covered over the last 8 weeks. All the team were well organised and prepared their work carefully. Over the year I have tried to let the children "run" their assembly. As a final assembly for this year and cribbing a little idea from Mr Swallow we decided that I would become a member of the audience and the children would do all of the assembly. We nominated a Narrator (Charlotte) and then group by group we ploughed through chunks of the work created. It was fabulous to see as you could see the change in all of the children: confidence, audibility, and no fuss smooth transition.
All of the children have come a long way through the year. A very proud moment.
The Assembly Programme:

  • Live Science - Hatching Butterflies
  • Conisbrough Castle - Prezi Presentation
  • Castle Group - Making Models
  • Spooky Castle Story - Big Write/Word
  • Castle Adventure - Big Write/Word
  • Learning Postcard - Self Target Setting
  • New Species of Butterfly - Non-Fiction
  • Walking Guided Reading Group - Powerpoint
  • Opinion: Should children make Models - VCOP linked
  • PaperClip Extraction Science Clip - Photostory 3
Normally assemblies take between 15-25 minutes. After several nudges to speed up we finished 40 minutes later. I am sure they could have talked for an hour!
